Acianthus fornicatus

(Pixie Caps)

Often found growing in colonies, this orchid is a deciduous, autumn flowerer and occurs in local forests in well-drained, moist sites. It produces a slender, green flower stem up to 25cm tall supporting a half dozen or so flowers, emerging from a single dark green leaf with purplish underside. The flowers are small, about 10mm in height, and is seen flowering in autumn, sometimes in large mixed colonies of Pterostylis baptistii and Chiloglottis sylvestris.
